St Johns ChurchSt.John's Church was started as a small chapel along with St. John's School around the year 1853. The church was an initiative of Rev.R.Posnett, an assistant chaplain with East India Company. He started St.John's School to serve the Eurasian children in the Bengaluru Cantonment area. Area near the church was called Mootocherry, at that time. The Tamil population used to call this Church as Sigappoosi Madha Kovil, meaning Red Needle Church, because of its prominent red steeple visible from far.
