St.Mary's Basilica was started as a thatched hut in the 17th century, by migrant Christians from neighbouring states. During the dreaded Black Plague, prayers to Mother Mary were believed to have miraculously eradicated plague in the neighbourhood of present day Shivaji Nagar. Over the years this church was rebuilt several times and was awarded the status of a Basilica in 1973 by Pope John Paul VI, making it the sixth Basilica in India. Mother Mary's Feast celebrated on 8 September every year draws people of all religions from distant places.
Mass timings on 25 December : 6 am, 7 am , 8 am, 9am and 11 am.
