Know your Bengaluru

St. Mark's Cathedral, founded in 1808 had celebrated in bicentennial bash in 2007. The church and the road are named after St. Mark, believed to be the first Gospel writer. The colonial structure with Victorian architecture was modelled along the lines of the St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Roman archers along the walls, external bells, wooden carvings in the entrance, stained glass work, ornate ceilings and domes are some of the striking features. A pipe organ installed in 1928 was revived in 2007 by Swedish experts. The church has adopted several slums in the city for social upliftment.
