Shiva TemplesMaha Shivratri, (the Great Night of Lord Shiva) is widely celebrated in India and Nepal, when devotees fast and visit Shiva temples on the 13th night / 14th day of the Phalguna month in the Hindu calendar, before the advent of Spring season. Devotees observe fast, stay awake overnight and visit Shiva temples. A popular legend says that Lord Shiva was pleased by prayers of Goddess Parvati and saved the earth from imminent destruction, on this day. Bengaluru has many Shiva temples which were all vibrant with the chants of Om Nama Shivaya, on the night of 24th February 2017.
