Namma Metro was in news for having unearthed 2 cannons near Tipu's Fort & Palace in KR Market. Did you know that the celebrated Tiger of Mysore - Tipu Sultan is called Father of modern missile technology? Tipu is said to have used world's first rocket missiles against the British troops in the Third Anglo-Mysore war at the end of 18th century. Tipu Sultan is considered a pioneer of rocket development, for making critical innovative changes to the Mysorean rockets used by his father Hyder Ali. Iron casing was used for higher thrust and longer range. Rocket men were trained to assess the parabolic trajectory and vary the angle of dispatch based on distance from the target. For multiple launching, Tipu created his own rocket organ, capable of launching 5-10 rockets at once. These dreaded missiles were fitted with swords as warheads. Saluting the vision of Tipu Sultan, the DRDO plans to set up an archaeological rocket centre at his rocket court in Srirangapatna. Missile Man Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam was inspired by a painting in the lobby of NASA, that depicted Tipu Sultan's army firing missiles on British troops.
