Know your BENGALURU

Government Museum in Bengaluru, one of the oldest museums in India, was founded in 1865 by Edward G. Balfour, a medical officer. The museum functioned at the Cantonment's jail building until the current premises of the museum in Kasturba Road ( then Sydney Road) was opened in 1877. The museum has eighteen galleries in 2 floors. These galleries comprise of different sections like geology, natural history, sculpture, art and numismatics. Venkatappa art gallery has about 600 paintings of K.Venkatappa, a court painter of the Wodeyars.
