Vintage Car Park
is in Bommanahalli (ward 175), near the RTO. The first of its kind in Bengaluru, this park is an initiative by Bommanahalli corporator Ram Mohan Raju. The cost for this park was funded by BBMP. The CAR PARK was inaugurated on 27 February 2019, by former DCM R Ashok, BBMP Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun and Bommanahalli MLA Satish Reddy.Vintage Car Models
A set of nine vintage cars are stacked one on top of another to form a 120ft high tower. The models from 1940s-1980s bought from different parts of the country. The 9 models stacked are: Mercedes Benz MB-140 (1981), Chevrolet Bellair (1960), Chevrolet Master Deluxe (1942), Ply Mouth (1937), Austin-10 (1946), Triumph May Flower (1952), Beetle (1967), Morris-8 (1946), Morris Mini Van (1960). The tower of vintage cars look spectacular in the dark when illuminated. Just a pet peeve - as a vintage car museum, some models could have been displayed at ground level also, so the visitors and especially kids can explore them better.Art from scrap metal
What attracts the visitors most, are the animals and aliens assembled with scrap metal from old trucks. They were crafted by the sculptor Katuri Venkateswara Rao, in Andhra Pradesh. The artist has recycled old clutches, gears, nuts, bolts, screws, springs etc. very creatively to sculpt a range of animals: lion, horse, deer, kangaroo, dinosaur and some alien figures. The adjascent road and its divider are bordered with 50 out of the 52 Kannada alphabets. This eye-catching array of Kannada Varnamala script is also crafted from scrap metal. The park also has some colourful caroon characters made of concrete: Disney and Chota Bhim characters!Facilities
The Aviary, has in it some rescued species of birds and open for adoption. There are enclosures for parrots, rabbits and tortoises. Space under the stairways of the amphitheatre has been innovatively utilized for these enclosures. Amphitheatre with a seating capacity of 3000 people has been built to encourage kids interested in performing. Rock climbing board with a sand pit is a favourite spot for the kids. The open air gym has a range of equipment, well used by senior citizens in the neighbourhood! The walking path paved around a lawn is put to good use by regular walkers in the residential area. There is a well equipped kids play lot too. What's in a name ?
The vintage car park, has been named the "CAR PARK". Ironically the residents living around reportedly complained about the street parking of vehicles around the park, which gets crowded in the evenings. The motorists who drive by, are attracted by the vintage car tower and stop by, to take pictures. This well maintained park is a new selfie spot in the city! The vintage car tower, animal figures and the Kannada script are all illuminated in the evenings and none who pass by this road can miss the sight !
